Cinco de Mayo has become one of the holidays most associated with impaired driving, with nearly one-third of traffic crashes involving a drunk driver. In response, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the launch of a multi-agency DWI Task Force to combat impaired driving and enhance public safety on our roadways.
Under the leadership of Sheriff Wesley Doolittle, law enforcement agencies from across Montgomery and Harris Counties—representing 16 partner agencies—are joining forces with one clear message: safety, cooperation, and compliance with the law are paramount. Those who choose to drive under the influence will be held accountable and face arrest.
From Thursday, May 2 through Sunday, May 5, officers will be deployed across the region as part of a NO REFUSAL DWI enforcement initiative.
This effort is conducted in close collaboration with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office to ensure swift processing of impaired driving cases.
“If you plan to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with alcoholic beverages, please do so responsibly,” the MCSO statement reads. “Use a rideshare service, designate a sober driver, or celebrate safely from home.”
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to reducing impaired driving fatalities and ensuring that everyone can enjoy the holiday weekend safely.
