Community members gathered Tuesday, June 3, to celebrate the launch of a new mobile health unit by the Health Center of Southeast Texas, marking a major step toward improving access to healthcare in rural Liberty County and beyond.
The ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the center’s Colony Ridge location at 871 CR 3549, just south of Plum Grove. The mobile unit was funded by a grant from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation, based in Lufkin, and is intended to serve families in areas with limited access to medical care.
“We’re here today to introduce our new mobile health care unit—our van to help service the people in Liberty County and the surrounding areas,” said Steve Racciato, CEO of the Health Center of Southeast Texas. “We will be using this van to provide care to everyone in areas where there are no providers.”
According to Racciato, the mobile unit will travel throughout the region, not just serve Colony Ridge. Its service area includes communities as far north as Corrigan in Polk County, as far east as Liberty, Daisetta and Hull, and as far south as Dayton.
Chief Operating Officer Maggie Estrada also addressed the crowd, delivering her remarks in Spanish to reflect the community’s bilingual roots.
“We are here at the event to inaugurate our mobile clinic,” Estrada said. “We will be here every Tuesday at the Health Center of Southeast Texas in Terrenos Houston providing our family and pediatric health services. We’re very happy to be here. The Temple Foundation has supported this project, and we are very grateful.”
The Health Center of Southeast Texas is a member of the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from the local chamber joined the event.
The new mobile unit is part of the center’s broader mission to meet patients where they are, providing critical services directly to underserved neighborhoods across Southeast Texas.
