A 19-year-old man has been arrested following an early morning shooting Friday that stemmed from a vehicle chase through Cleveland, police said.
Cleveland police officers were dispatched around 1:41 a.m. to the 200 block of Dunnam Avenue after reports of gunfire. Investigators said the incident began as a verbal altercation between two groups near the 800 block of U.S. 59.
One group, driving a 2002 white Chevrolet Suburban, began chasing the other, who were in a 2012 Dodge pickup. During the pursuit, a passenger in the Suburban allegedly fired shots at the Dodge, according to police.
Officers began searching the area for the suspect vehicle and located the Suburban in the 400 block of West Southline Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted, and all five occupants of the vehicle were detained and transported to the Cleveland Police Department.
Inside the vehicle, officers reportedly found a .22-caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun.
Detectives later identified the suspected shooter as Brandon Lee Webb, 19, of Liberty County. Webb has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second-degree felony. He is currently being held in the Cleveland Police Department Jail.
“Blatantly shooting at vehicles often leads to tragedy, but we are thankful no one was harmed. This team effort will ultimately lead to a successful prosecution of the shooter,” said Cleveland Police Capt. Scott Felts.
Felts added that the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
