Pamela Kay Malone Perkins

Pamela Kay Malone Perkins, 70, of Atascocita, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Humble. She has been described by those who knew her well as a “classy southern lady” with great inner strength.

Pam was born July 10, 1954, in Kountze, Texas, to parents Millard Chris (M.C.) and Frances Mae Herrington Malone. She was a resident of Austin for over forty years. In late 2023, she moved to the wonderful Fountainwood community in Atascocita that she described as “living on a cruise ship”. Pam graduated from Liberty High School in 1972 and thereafter, received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Stephen F. Austin State University. Additionally, she became a licensed paralegal. She was an investigator for the Attorney General of Texas for 31 years before her retirement. Prior to working for the State of Texas, Pam and her husband, John, owned a retail establishment called “The Dishmarket” in Austin. In those years, she hired young people from Liberty who were attending college in Austin that wanted a job. While in Austin, she was a member of the Manchaca Methodist Church, a volunteer at the Zilker Park Theatrical Summer Productions, and a leader for the Weight Watchers Organization. She and John were faithful University of Texas sports supporters and shared those events with family and friends.

Pam was a truly generous and thoughtful person who gave her time and talents to others throughout her life. She was an accomplished quilter. She could have easily had a successful business of quilting, but instead she made wonderful quilts for friends and family for significant events or holidays. She shared her quilting passion with her sister, Chris. Over the years, they created beautiful projects together. Pam loved gardening and canning food to give to others. She enjoyed cooking and baking as well. She was a member of the family cow working team and mowed on the tractor at the farm for her Dad. She made time for her grandchildren (who called her Momo) and her nephews as well, by spending time with them individually in the summer with many activities both in the Austin area and at the beach. Pam also created advent gifts for all of them (along with her Dad) and sent them at Christmas time every year.

Some people collect things in their life. Pam collected friends. She had many friends that she met through various activities and she held on to them. She made a point of knowing the important dates in their lives, whether it was a birthday or a date to remember the passing of their loved one. At Fountainwood, she found even more new friends that she cherished. Pam enjoyed them all throughout her life with various gatherings and travels.

Pam also enjoyed traveling with her family. She went on many cruises with her mother, sisters and other family members. The annual beach trips with her family were very special to her. The beach was her favorite place in the world. It was her sanctuary where all things were good.

Pam was a multiple myeloma survivor. She was first diagnosed in 2012 and fought hard over the years. Somehow, she continued working another five years after her initial diagnosis. She managed the appointments and treatments while maintaining her work responsibilities. Over the years, everyone knew she was doing well when she posted “another quilt completed” on her Facebook page. She eventually found herself in remission in late 2023.

Pam was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Malone; her husband, John Cody Perkins; her stepson, Marc Perkins; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Wilson. She is survived by her father, M.C. Malone; sisters, Chris Malone Long with husband Cliff, and Lee Ann Malone Brents with husband Jeff; nephews, Jeffery Brents with Jordan Jackson, and Michael Brents; stepdaughters Monti Perkins and Julie Perkins Oatman with husband Kenneth; grandchildren, Alexandra Oatman, Hannah Oatman with husband Anther Kiley, Rhodes Oatman, and Sophie Hayes Oatman; aunt, Barbara Read; numerous cousins; and many, many friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 1 p.m., at Allison’s Funeral Service Chapel in Liberty, with memorial services to follow at 2 p.m.
