Liberty HS student represents school at prestigious Texas Boys State

Luis Montano

Liberty High School student Luis Montano was selected as a delegate to the 2025 American Legion Texas Boys State, one of the most respected and selective educational programs for high school students focused on government, leadership, and civic engagement.

American Legion Boys State aims to cultivate civic leadership and foster pride in American citizenship. Delegates participate in a week-long immersive experience where they form a mock government, run for office, debate legislation, and gain firsthand insight into the democratic process.

The program’s goal is for each young man to return to his community more informed, more engaged, and ready to make meaningful contributions.

Montano represented Liberty High School with distinction at this year’s program, held at The University of Texas at Austin. Reflecting on his experience, he shared:

“Texas Boys State was more than just a leadership program — it was a turning point for me. Standing in the House of Representatives chamber, surrounded by hundreds of passionate students, I realized just how powerful our voices can be when we speak up for what matters. I wasn’t the loudest person in the room, but I found the courage to lead, to debate, and to believe that someone like me — a first-generation student with a love for music and community — has a place in these spaces.

“It taught me that leadership isn’t about titles or being the most experienced. It’s about listening, showing up, and fighting for something bigger than yourself. I left UT Austin changed — more confident, more inspired, and more certain than ever that I want to make a difference,” he continued.
