Nearly two months after Texas Emergency Hospital in Cleveland shut its doors during a planned ownership transition, the facility remains closed with no clear timeline for reopening.
The hospital’s license was in the process of being transferred to new owners operating under the name Texas Rural Hospital. However, the transfer was never finalized, and the license has since reverted to Roy Moparty, who also owns the facility. Financial setbacks among the new investors disrupted operations and halted plans to reopen.
Employees were left in limbo during the transition and still have not been paid.
DJ Rutherford, who had been managing the sale on behalf of the incoming ownership group, said he is stepping away from the process due to health issues. He confirmed the acquisition is now being turned over to other interested parties who may choose to move the transition forward.
The ongoing closure has raised concern among local residents who depended on the hospital for emergency and routine care. With the sale uncertain and no operational leadership in place, the reopening remains indefinitely delayed.
Bluebonnet News has reached out to Moparty for comment. As of the time this story was posted, calls have not been returned.

This is what happens when we turn public institutions into vehicles of profit and greed.
