James “Tommy” Thompson

James “Tommy” Thompson, 86, of Cleveland, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025.

Born on Jan. 6, 1939, to Laurel Jim Thompson and Pearl Adams, Tommy lived a life marked by dedication to family, country, and hard work. He served honorably in the United States Army and later devoted himself fully to providing for his family, working tirelessly until illness made it no longer possible.

Tommy was a steadfast father and a proud grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Rusty Thompson and Sonny Thompson.

He is survived by Georgia Nell Thompson, and their children: Steven Thompson and wife Pam, Stephanie Placker and husband Tim, and Jeffery Thompson and wife Laura. Tommy was also blessed with seven grandsons—Stewart Thompson, Jacob Thompson, Jonathon Thompson, Colton Placker, Jesse Thompson, Garrett Thompson, and Ethan Placker—and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends, all of whom carry forward his legacy of strength and family devotion.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the Thompson Family Cemetery, 1989 Lilley Yeager Loop South, Cleveland, Texas 77328, with Glen Malone officiating.

Tommy will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
