Hardin High School students lead relief effort for flood victims in the Hill Country

In response to the devastating floods that recently swept through the Texas Hill Country, the Hardin High School Student Council has organized a relief effort to support affected families.

In a statement from Hardin ISD, the district said the flooding has left families facing “loss, uncertainty, and the need to rebuild.” The student-led initiative aims to show “support, compassion, and unity” in a time of crisis.

Through the efforts of students, staff and local supporters, the school is collecting gift cards, food donations, and essential supplies such as socks, feminine hygiene products, soap, bleach, toothpaste, toothbrushes, diapers, wipes, paper towels, toilet paper and other cleaning items.

“Our goal is to meet both the immediate and long-term needs of those impacted by the floods,” the statement said. “We are holding donation drives, encouraging classmates and families to give, and reaching out for community support.”

The district noted that the response so far has been “overwhelming.” Gift cards donated by individuals and businesses are allowing families the flexibility to purchase exactly what they need. At the same time, collections of basic necessities help meet the daily needs of families working to recover.

“Every donation, no matter the size, is a symbol of hope,” the statement continued. “These contributions remind the people of the Hill Country that they are not alone — that a small town like Hardin stands behind them, ready to help.”

Hardin ISD said the project is more than a charitable effort — it is a “lesson in compassion, leadership and unity.”

“In a moment of disaster, we find an opportunity to make a difference — and together, we are doing just that,” the district stated.
