A Cleveland ISD school bus carrying students from Cleveland High School (CHS) and Cleveland Ninth Grade Center (C9) was involved in an accident on FM 1010 around 6:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11. The bus came to rest on its side in a ditch.
All students were safely evacuated from the bus and immediately assessed by first responders. Students were transported to the North Service Center for additional medical evaluations by trained personnel and released to their parents. Around 36 students were transported to Kingwood Hospital for further medical evaluation.
“As part of safety protocols, some students were transported to Kingwood Medical Center and Cleveland Medical Center for precautionary evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. The bus driver was also treated in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) protocols,” said Tonya Clark, a spokesperson for Cleveland ISD.
According to Clark, the Cleveland ISD Transportation Department had contacted all parents/guardians of students involved in the incident directly and sent notifications through SMART Tag.
“Students who were medically cleared were transported to their home campuses, where campus nurses will continue to monitor them throughout the day. Cleveland ISD leadership, emergency responders, and law enforcement remained on scene to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff involved,” Clark said.
The district expressed gratitude for the swift response and collaboration of first responders and medical personnel.
