The First Methodist Church of Dayton celebrated a milestone on Aug. 8, serving its 50th annual Taco Salad Luncheon to the staff of Dayton ISD.

This long-standing tradition brought together church members, retired teachers, and community volunteers to serve more than 750 staff and workers from across the district.

In addition to enjoying a hearty meal, attendees contributed to the church’s mission of service by bringing canned goods to donate to the church’s food pantry. This year’s luncheon was once again coordinated by Tara Brandt, president of Methodist Women, who also works with the youth on organizing the food pantry effort.

The luncheon is a collaborative undertaking, with Caroline Wadzeck and Mary Ellen Conner leading the dessert table and their team of bakers, while John Johnson, President of Methodist Men, coordinates the drink service.

At the heart of the event is Cindy Brawley-Scott, who serves as the driving force behind its success. From planning the menu and decorations to working with vendors, inviting retired teachers to return and greet attendees, and ensuring hundreds of guests are served efficiently, Brawley-Scott’s leadership keeps the beloved tradition thriving.
