Texas Governor Greg Abbott appointed Michelle Mangum-Merendino as Judge of the 75th Judicial District Court in Liberty County for a term set to expire on Dec. 31, 2026, or until her successor shall be duly elected and qualified.

Michelle Mangum-Merendino of Liberty is an attorney in private practice.

She is president of the Liberty County Bar Association, member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Bar College and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and former member of the American Bar Association and the Harris County Bar Association.

She also serves on the Liberty Police Department Advisory Board and is a member of the Texas Family Law Foundation and Faith Family Church. Mangum-Merendino earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Houston–Clear Lake and a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston.

“It’s an honor and an awesome responsibility when the governor puts his trust in you to serve the citizens of your county,” Mangum-Merendino said.

Mangum-Merendino describes herself as a strict constructionist who believes judges should interpret the law rather than create new law from the bench.

“A good judge should review the facts of each case, apply the law, and hold parties to their burdens to ensure cases adhere to the basic legal principles and standards enshrined in our U.S. and Texas constitutions,” she said.
