Bonnie Ruth McAdams Smith

Bonnie Ruth McAdams Smith was born in Ben Wheeler, Texas, on Jan. 12, 1929, to John and Ila McAdams. She was fifth oldest in a large family of twelve children. Bonnie graduated from Shepherd High School in 1947, the first in her family to graduate. After graduating, she moved to Houston and worked for Dun & Bradstreet. Later that year, she married Forrest E. Smith. They had two children together: Gregory Smith and Sherrie Smith.

Bonnie was a full-time wife and mother until the death of her husband in 1983. She then went back to work, first for Foley’s Department Store and then for Hull & Hull Construction. She worked for Hull & Hull for 20 years, never missing a single day of work.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest E. Smith; her mother Ila McAdams and her father John McAdams; her brothers Thurman McAdams, Louie McAdams, Kenneth McAdams, Don McAdams, Richard McAdams, and Weldon McAdams; and her sisters Loette Loftin and Kathryn Nickell.

Bonnie is survived by her brother Charles McAdams and wife Pat; her sister Linda Plant and husband Gary; her son Gregory Smith and wife Beth Turton; her daughter Sherrie Dwyer; her grandchildren Kristin McCalip and husband Brandon, David Dwyer and wife Emily, Jeff Smith and wife Clara, and Shannon Smith; and her great-grandchildren Claire and Kyle McCalip, Trey and Devin Barney, David and Grace Smith.

Services will be held on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025 in the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland, Texas, with visitation at 1pm and the funeral 2pm with Larry Dangerfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Shepherd City Cemetery.
