Marco Elihu Jacquez, 23, of Cleveland, was among the inmates blamed for a blaze that broke out inside the jail on April 7, 2025. Jacquez, who was already facing charges of Capital Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, has now also been charged with Arson.

Court records show that a person was injured during the April 7 fire, though details about the extent of the injuries have not been released. Jacquez has not yet been convicted on the arson charge or his earlier charges.

Prosecutors also pursued charges against another inmate connected to the April 7 fire, Kevin Jimenez-Diaz. He pleaded guilty to a first-degree charge of Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, but prosecutors used the Arson charge tied to the jail fire to seek an enhanced sentence. Jimenez-Diaz was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Just three days after the April 7 fire, a second blaze was set inside the jail on April 10, 2025. In that case, investigators identified Nicholas Dwayne Johnson — who was being held on an Aggravated Robbery charge — as the person responsible. Johnson has now also been charged with Arson, though he has not yet been sentenced.

The fires sparked concern earlier this year as county officials worked to secure repairs and evaluate safety measures inside the jail.

The cases against Jacquez and Johnson remain pending.
