A crude oil fire erupted Thursday, Oct. 2, on a property at the corner of Peach Street and FM 787, directly adjacent to the Cleveland Police Department.
According to Cleveland Police Chief Darrel Broussard, flames were shooting roughly 60 feet into the air when the blaze broke out. Firefighters from the Cleveland Fire Department quickly responded, applying foam and using additional firefighting tactics to contain the flames.
Due to the fire’s close proximity to Cleveland PD, some staff were sent home for their own safety, Broussard said.
The helipad next to the police department, which is used for air ambulances, has also been closed due to the heavy smoke lingering in the area. In addition, some nearby roads have been shut down as a precaution.
The crude oil fueling the fire has reportedly been on the property for roughly 10 years. Broussard explained that earlier in the morning someone had noticed a hissing sound but it was assumed it was nothing unusual—until the blaze erupted later in the day.
As of press time, firefighters remain on scene working to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of nearby structures. No injuries have been reported.

Is anyone surprised by this!
Some bigwig sleezy oil company came thru Cleveland 10 years ago buying up random mineral rights from individuals for the fantastic amout of $60 a pop. That well should have NEVER been there. NEVER! Those highrollers are a bunch of creeps and crooks. The leaders of the City of Cleveland know this well. Check the pockets of the “previous” city managers from around that time.
