The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has released updated information regarding the ongoing investigation into an incident involving a mother and her three children at a residence in the 9000 block of FM 1008 near Dayton. The update was issued to address misinformation circulating on social media and to ensure transparency in the case.
On September 29, 2025, deputies responded to a report of a possible drowning. Upon arrival, they found an adult female and three children — two girls, ages 15 and 11, and a 6-year-old boy — in or near a pond. The 11-year-old girl was found unresponsive. Deputies immediately began lifesaving measures, and all three children, along with the adult female, were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The mother has been identified as Jessica Carolina Quintana, 39. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed against her. According to authorities, she continues to receive medical care and remains under medical supervision.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is leading the case in coordination with the Texas Rangers, the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office, and Children’s Protective Services.
Officials emphasized that the safety and well-being of the children remain the primary focus of the investigation. The children are now under the care and protection of appropriate agencies.
During the course of the investigation, deputies also discovered a domestic cat being kept in poor conditions inside the home. Investigators determined that the environment was unsafe for both animals and humans. As a result, a warrant was obtained for the children’s father, Domingo Quintana, 61, for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals under the Texas Penal Code.
“The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that no stone is being left unturned,” the release stated. “Every case investigated by this office is worked thoroughly, not only to pursue an arrest but to build a complete and prosecutable case that supports a conviction.”
Authorities cautioned the public against sharing unverified information online, noting that many claims circulating on social media have been found to be inaccurate. The sheriff’s office urged residents to rely solely on official statements for verified updates.
“This case is complex and requires extensive time and resources,” the release continued. “While public communication is important, the well-being of the children and the integrity of the investigation remain the top priorities.”
Further information will be released as the investigation allows.
