The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced the appointment of Ana Mijares, P.E., as the next Beaumont District Engineer, effective Oct. 1, 2025.

A TxDOT veteran, Mijares began her career with the department in 1993 as a summer intern in the Lufkin District. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1996, she joined the district as an engineering assistant, gaining hands-on experience through several rotations before being named Assistant Area Engineer.

In 2006, Mijares transitioned to the private sector, where she contributed to transportation projects across multiple Texas districts and collaborated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on hurricane protection initiatives in Louisiana.

She returned to TxDOT in 2012 as Central Design Lead in the Lufkin District and was later promoted to District Design Engineer in 2014, where she oversaw more than $785 million in construction projects. In 2020, she became Director of Transportation Planning and Development, managing a 10-year project portfolio valued at $400 million.

Since 2022, Mijares has served as Deputy District Engineer for the Beaumont District, where her leadership helped the district achieve a record-breaking $960 million in construction projects in 2024.

She also championed the implementation of smart work zones on the Rainbow Bridge Rehabilitation Project and the creation of the district’s first Traffic Incident Management (TIM) team.

Mijares earned her professional engineer license in 2004 and brings more than three decades of engineering experience and leadership to her new role.
