Ronald John Newman

Ronald John Newman, 69, of Beaumont, Texas, passed Sept. 29, 2025.

Services are Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 3920 W. Cardinal Drive, Beaumont, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the funeral at 10 a.m.

Ronald came into this world with his twin by his side, but this final assignment he had to complete alone. Born Nov. 29, 1955, to the late Earnest Newman and Bernice Rodney Newman, Ronald shared an unbreakable bond with his twin from the very beginning—a connection that shaped his life with love, laughter and understanding. He was also reared with his other two brothers and one sister, who played an equally important part in his life. Ronald was known for his kind heart, quiet strength, unwavering dedication to his family and friends—and, let us not forget, his good cooking and smooth swing-out dancing.

From an early age, Ronald accepted Christ into his life and was baptized at First Sixth Street Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas.

A two-time organ recipient, Ronald was blessed with the gift of time—time he used to love deeply, laugh often and cherish every moment with those around him. His strength and resilience were an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

He graduated from the illustrious Abraham Lincoln High School, home of the Mighty Bumblebee, Class of 1974. Ronald was very proud of his school and classmates. After graduation, he became employed with the City of Port Arthur as a maintenance crew supervisor. His tenure with the city spanned from April 1976 to April 2006.

He met the love of his life, Catherine, and shortly thereafter they were married on Sept. 7, 2004.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Bernice Newman, and his sister, Bernadine.

Ronald’s memories will live on with the ones he touched throughout his life on earth: his loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Catherine Newman; four children, Toderick Scypion of Charleston, S.C.; Rolanda Brew of Houston, Texas; Ronald Newman Jr. (Clarissa) of Houston, Texas; and Jelissa Newman of Port Arthur, Texas; two bonus children, Trevare Young of Clear Lake, Texas, and Brittany (Marquis) Young-Miller of Killeen, Texas; three brothers, Earnest (Alma), Gary (late Zene) and Ronnie, all of Port Arthur, Texas; mother-in-law, Minnie Davis; sister-in-law, Pamela Clayton (William) of Beaumont, Texas; and one brother-in-law, John Savoy of San Diego, Calif. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends; and two special four-legged companions he dearly loved, Zoey and Chase.
