James Erwin Watson

James Erwin Watson, 78, passed away on Oct. 17, 2025, in Liberty, Texas. He was born on Jan. 18, 1947, in Liberty, Texas, to his late parents George Raymond Watson and Helen Sue Massingill Watson.

Erwin lived a life marked by an infectious spirit and unwavering dedication to his family and community. Known for his larger-than-life personality, Erwin was a man who truly lived life to its fullest until his last day. He was one of a kind, often seen with a smile on his face, whistling or singing to lift the spirits of those around him. His generosity was well-known; he had a big heart that compelled him to lend a helping hand whenever someone was in need. To Erwin, everyone was family, and he never met a stranger.

Erwin had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods, always finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. He cherished his morning coffee as much as he adored children and animals, often adopting any dog or pet that needed a home. His zest for life extended to his family, who meant the world to him.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, daughters, Leslie, and Heather and family. He also leaves behind his children: daughter Wendi, husband Gary, and family; daughter Tina husband Donnie and family; son Stephen and family; son Michael, wife Jana, and family; and daughter Lindsay, husband Kyle, and family; along with many family members and cherished friends loved like family. Together, they will fondly remember the warmth and love that Erwin brought into their lives.

Erwin was preceded in death by his parents and many beloved family members and friends, who are surely welcoming him with open arms.

Visitation for Erwin will take place at Faith & Family Funeral Services in Batson, Texas, on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 6:30 p.m. The family invites all who knew Erwin to join them in commemorating a life that truly exemplifies kindness, love, and an unwavering spirit. Cremation services are under the care of Faith and Family Funeral Services.
