Cleveland police say man loaded backpack with items after trespass warning

A Cleveland man was arrested early Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, after allegedly returning to a convenience store from which he had previously been banned and attempting to leave with a backpack full of merchandise, according to the Cleveland Police Department.

At approximately 3:35 a.m. on Oct. 22, 2025, Officer B. Johnson was dispatched to the Stripes Convenience Store, located at 1201 E. Houston St. in Cleveland, in reference to a reported theft.

While en route, dispatch advised that the male suspect was attempting to leave the store. Upon arrival, Officer Johnson spotted a man in the parking lot matching the suspect’s description and detained him. The suspect was identified as Marco Antonio Olvera, 41, of Cleveland.

Store employees told police they had previously reported shoplifting incidents involving Olvera. They said he was seen removing several items from the shelves and placing them into a backpack.

When he attempted to leave the store, an employee intervened and pulled the backpack from his shoulder, preventing him from leaving with the stolen items.

Officers learned that Olvera had an active criminal trespass warning for the Stripes location. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Cleveland Police Department Jail, where he was booked for criminal trespass, a Class B misdemeanor.

His bond was set at $1,500.
