Berry David Thompson, 78, of Liberty, Texas, passed away on Oct. 28, 2025. He was born on July 1, 1947, in Warren, Texas, to parents Dewitt Thompson and Opal Corraine Wright Thompson.
Berry had made Liberty his home for more than 60 years. He was a simple, kind-hearted man who enjoyed the little things in life—like a good cup of coffee and a classic western on television. Berry had a lifelong passion for restoring street rods and old cars, taking pride in bringing them back to life. In his younger years, he loved attending dirt track car races with his son, sharing a love of speed and craftsmanship that became a special bond between them.
For 54 years, Berry was devoted to his beloved wife, Deborah, with whom he built a life full of love, laughter, and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt and Opal Thompson; stepfather, Jasper Harrell; brother, Johnny Thompson; sister, Jackie Bulford, infant sister, Ellen Elizabeth Harrell.
Berry is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Thompson; sons, Gregory Wayne Thompson and wife Terry, and Isacc David Thompson and wife Shannon; daughters, Geneva Gail Cortez and husband Raul, and Katherine Ernestine Thompson; sisters, Patsy Windham and husband Earl, Amanda Raley, Laverne Oliver and husband Lonnie, and Connie Thompson; grandchildren, Gregory, Jessica, Stephanie, Zachary, Caitlin, Andrew, Nicholas, Samantha, Ashley, Chloe, and Nathan; along with numerous great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Berry’s life during a visitation on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, also at Pace Stancil, with burial to follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
Berry will be remembered for his love of family, his steady presence, and the joy he found in simple pleasures—memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
