On Oct. 30, 2025, Margaret Janell Moore, 85, of Moss Hill, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the love of her daughters, who held her hands as she journeyed home.
Born on June 9, 1940, in Palestine, Texas, Margaret was the fifth of 10 children born to Johnie and Zula Mae Lock. She made her home in the Hardin–Moss Hill area, where she filled her house with warmth, laughter and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals and fresh coffee.
Margaret found joy in life’s simple pleasures — treasure hunting while shopping, casting a fishing line, crabbing along the coast, or savoring a hot cup of coffee while watching her favorite TV shows. But her greatest happiness came from spending time with her beloved family. She cherished every gathering with her brothers, sisters and extended family, always filling the room with laughter and love. Eight of her siblings preceded her in death, and her family finds peace knowing she is joyfully reunited with them.
Margaret will forever be remembered for her kind heart, strong spirit and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy of love continues through her daughters, Melissa Luter and husband, Scott, and Amanda Sumrall, both of Hardin–Moss Hill. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Joel Luter and wife, Josie, of Fort Collins, Colo.; Cortney Minnehan and husband, Josh, of Sulphur, La.; Logan Sumrall and wife, Amanda, of Kingwood; Brandon Sumrall and wife, Avery, of Old River–Winfree; Jaxon Luter and wife, Shelby, of Bay City; and Jakob Luter of Austin.
She delighted in her five beautiful great-granddaughters — Samantha, Skylar, Amelia, Scarlet and Thea — and is also survived by her dear brother, Sammie Lock and wife, Shannon, of Texarkana, along with many loving nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
A celebration of life for Margaret Moore will be held at a later date in the Moss Hill area, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and celebrate a life well lived.
Though she may be gone from sight, her love, laughter and quick wit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
