The Dayton Rotary Club welcomed Dayton City Manager Derek Woods as guest speaker during its regular weekly meeting, held at noon Oct. 30 at the Dayton Community Center.
Rotary President Dr. Luke Chachere called the meeting to order, Dr. Travis Young offered the prayer, and Mrs. Rachel Ansley led the pledges. Guests attending included Texas State Representative Briscoe Cain, Dayton Interim Police Chief Shane Burleigh, City Manager Derek Woods, and Tony Buchanan, son of longtime community member Bill Buchanan.
Rotarian Tammy Alexander introduced Woods, who presented the program on the State of the City of Dayton. Woods highlighted several ongoing infrastructure projects, including the installation of new water wells, upgrades to the sewer lift station on Sawmill Road, and plans for a new animal shelter behind the Dayton Police Department.
According to Woods, several developers are actively working on projects in various stages of progress as Dayton continues to experience steady growth. He also discussed continued efforts to work with TxDOT to replace the stop sign at Grand Parkway and FM 1960 with a traffic light, a move intended to improve traffic flow and enhance safety. His presentation was both informative and engaging, offering Rotarians an inside look at the city’s current priorities and development goals.
During the meeting, Mr. Geoff McCracken won a gift card to a local Dayton coffee shop, donated by State Representative Briscoe Cain.
In other club business, Dr. Chachere distributed new Rotary shirts to members and encouraged everyone to sell raffle tickets for the club’s fundraiser—a chance to win a 4-wheeler, with only 250 tickets being sold to improve the odds for participants.
“The Rotary Club will even cover the taxes for the winner,” Chachere reminded the group. “If anyone is interested in buying a raffle ticket, please contact any of the Dayton Rotary members.”
The meeting concluded with the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test, reaffirming the club’s commitment to service, ethics, and community leadership.

Briscoe is teeny-tiny little twerp. Maybe 5’5” without his cowgirl boots??
What is there to work on regarding replacing the stop signs with signal lights at the intersection of 1960 and 99? This situation needs to be rectified before someone is killed in an accident or in an act of road rage caused by people who do not obey the laws and wait in line. The district engineer needs to return phone calls from the citizens who pay his salary or at least address this issue in the local news media.
