Cleveland celebrates new outdoor play equipment at Samuel Wiley Park

A celebration followed the ribbon cutting at Samuel Wiley Park to mark the installation of new playground equipment.

On Saturday, Nov. 22, the City of Cleveland, along with the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce, held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the addition of new outdoor play equipment at Samuel Wiley Park in Cleveland.

Mayor Danny Lee and Ivan Williams with TUFF Kids welcomed the few dozen people who attended the event.

The ceremony marked the latest step in the city’s ongoing efforts to reinvest in neighborhood parks and strengthen community spaces. Families, local leaders and park supporters gathered to celebrate the refreshed park, which now features new playground equipment, a walking path, and updated seating areas.

Looking around the park, Mayor Lee said it was a welcome sight to see young children enjoying the new equipment, which includes climbing devices, slides and a swing set. He also spoke about the park being the heart of the community and how it has drawn people to events for generations.

“We now have a splash pad at the old Campbell Park for the kids. Two years ago, we added a skate park. We have a lot of kids that believe in skateboarding. I have never saw anything like that before. That was another bright idea from our young people that we have in the department positions now. They’re going outside the box and they’re making recommendations that are better for our youth. We’ve also made renovations at our old city park,” Lee said.
