A December to Remember: Community Christmas events taking place this month

The holiday season continues to sparkle across Liberty County and surrounding communities with parades, markets, concerts, church events, and family-friendly celebrations. Whether your plans include Christmas shopping, enjoying a festive meal, attending a parade, or sharing cocoa after carols, there’s something happening almost every day this month. Use this date-by-date guide to map out your holiday fun.

Monday, Dec. 1

Free Family Movie Night – “Elf”
7 p.m. | Texan Theater, 102 E. Houston St., Cleveland
Enjoy a free showing of Elf with doors opening at 6 p.m. Popcorn, candy, and drinks available for purchase. No outside food or drinks allowed.

Tuesday, Dec. 2

LIGHTS in Liberty – Week 3 & Christmas Parade
Parade at 6:15 p.m. | Downtown Liberty
The parade travels down Sam Houston Ave. Afterward, enjoy strolling carolers from the First Methodist Church of Liberty, photo booths with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Panther Claws, face painting, and free refreshments from Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center.
LIGHTS in Liberty events begin around 5:30 p.m. at the city square. The celebration continues weekly on Dec. 9 and Dec. 16.

Friday, Dec. 5

Nutcracker Market – Day 1
5–9 p.m. | Dayton Community Center, 801 S. Cleveland
Vendor shopping, food trucks, and festive performances including Ballet Folklorico of Dayton from 5–6 p.m. and Dayton Academy of Dance from 6:30–7:30 p.m.
The Dayton Chamber’s Cookie Crawl overlaps from 5–6 p.m.

2025 Trinity Valley Chamber of Commerce Cookie Crawl
5–9 p.m. | Dayton & Liberty
Sample cookies from participating businesses. Dayton businesses without storefronts may set up at the Dayton Community Center; Liberty businesses without storefronts may set up at the Vera Faye Martin Daniel Pavilion. Maps provided at each stop. A map will be provided on the Bluebonnet News Facebook page soon.

Saturday, Dec. 6

Breakfast With Santa
9–11 a.m. | First Baptist Church of Liberty, 602 Main St.
Free breakfast and photos with Santa for the whole family.

Heritage Market Christmas Farmers & Outdoor Market
9 a.m.–4 p.m. | Heritage Market Complex, 2818 N. Main St., Liberty
Shop handcrafted gifts from more than 30 artisans, makers, and bakers.

Nutcracker Market – Day 2
10 a.m.–9 p.m. | Dayton Community Center
Includes Santa’s Workshop at Jones Public Library (10 a.m.–4 p.m.), food trucks, and a Dayton Academy of Dance performance from 4–4:30 p.m.

Dayton Lighted Christmas Parade
6 p.m. | Downtown Dayton
The route begins at the Dayton ISD Athletics parking lot. After the parade, enjoy a hayride from 6:30–9 p.m., inflatables, balloon artists, snow, an express train, and Candy Cane Lake.
At 7 p.m., Mayor Martin Mudd will light the Christmas tree at the Dayton Community Center.

Cleveland Hometown Christmas – Holiday Market & Lighted Parade
Market noon–5 p.m. | Parade at 6 p.m.
The holiday market takes place at the Cleveland Civic Center, 210 Peach Ave. The parade travels along Houston St., beginning near the Texan Theater and ending at Stancil Park.

A Cleveland Methodist Christmas
7–8:30 p.m. | 100 N. William Barnett Ave., Cleveland
Following the Cleveland Hometown Christmas parade, enjoy Christmas carols, cookies, and hot chocolate with Cleveland Methodist Church.

Tuesday, Dec. 9

LIGHTS in Liberty – Week 4
Begins at 5:30 p.m. | Vera Faye Daniel Pavilion / City Square, Liberty
Live entertainment will be provided, along with free refreshments from N. Main Baptist Church and State Rep. Janis Holt. Part of the five-week LIGHTS in Liberty series leading up to Christmas.

Thursday, Dec. 11

Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce Holiday Luncheon
11:30 a.m. | Cleveland Civic Center, 210 Peach Ave.
A festive luncheon catered by the Cleveland High School Culinary Arts Tonkawa Bistro with holiday music by the Royal Braves Jazz Band.

Tuesday, Dec. 16

EMCID Christmas Open House – “Deck the Halls”
11 a.m.–1 p.m. & 5–8 p.m. | The Atrium Center, 21575 Hwy. 59, New Caney
The East Montgomery County Improvement District welcomes guests to a free open house with festive displays, snacks, photo opportunities, and a touch of “snow.” Open to all ages. Call 281-354-4419 for details.

LIGHTS in Liberty – Week 4
Starts around 4:30 p.m. | Liberty City Square
Part of the five-week holiday series leading up to Christmas. There will be a craft show starting at 4:30 p.m. and Let It Snow at 5:30 p.m. There will be lighted tours on mule-drawn wagons through Liberty’s historic streets. Free refreshments will be provided by First Liberty Bank.

Sunday, Dec. 21

Freedom Church Christmas Services
8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., & 11 a.m. | 422 US 90, Liberty
Three Christmas services are open to the community. There will be no in-person service on Sunday, Dec. 28. The service will be online only. Watch services at facebook.com/freedomdl.church.
