A family dispute on CR 2095 in the Hardin area on Saturday, Dec. 20, escalated into a shooting that left two men injured, according to information released by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene where an argument was taking place between a woman and the father of her children, later identified as Tyrell Triplett, 28. Multiple adults and children were present at the residence at the time of the incident.
Other family members, including Arthur Adams, 25, arrived at the location in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Upon arrival, Adams and others tried to separate the involved parties and prevent the dispute from escalating further.
During the confrontation, a male family member reportedly produced a handgun. At that point, Triplett moved toward a vehicle and appeared to reach inside. Adams stated he backed away because he was unsure what Triplett was reaching toward.
Moments later, gunshots were heard. Triplett sustained gunshot wounds to his shoulder and side. Adams was also struck, suffering a gunshot wound to his hand. Adams told investigators he did not clearly see the firearm discharge and could not definitively identify who fired the weapon, stating the situation unfolded quickly and was chaotic.
Triplett was transported by air medical to HCA Kingwood, where he underwent surgery and was listed in stable but critical condition. Adams was transported by ground ambulance to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center and later transferred to HCA Kingwood for surgery.
Kenyan Hunt of Liberty was detained by patrol deputies and taken into custody. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The victims’ vehicle was secured and transported to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said a search warrant will be obtained to collect additional evidence related to the incident.
