A new creative event celebrating first-time and emerging filmmakers is coming to Cleveland in February.
The Newbie Film Festival will take place Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Fellowship church, formerly known as Cross Community Church, located at 510 River St. in Cleveland.
The event is being organized by The Newbie Film Academy and its founder, Joan Montreuil, and marks the first time the festival has been held.
Montreuil said she is excited to celebrate first-time and emerging filmmakers, writers, directors and actors by giving them a platform to showcase their work. The festival will feature film screenings, panel discussions and opportunities for creative networking.
The films being shown are clean and family-friendly, and attendees of all ages are welcome. However, two of the films address adult themes, and parents are encouraged to consider this content when deciding whether to bring younger children.
Films scheduled for the festival have already been selected and are ready for screening. Tickets are available for those who wish to attend and watch the films on Feb. 7 and can be purchased online at

There is still a limited opportunity for last-minute film submissions from filmmakers in the Cleveland, Texas, area only. Any local filmmaker interested in submitting a last-minute entry must contact Montreuil directly at thenewbiefilmacademy@gmail.com.
The Newbie Film Festival is designed to encourage creativity, learning and connection among artists who are still building their experience in the film industry. Montreuil hopes the event will help foster a supportive creative community and inspire participants to continue pursuing their passion for storytelling.
The event is open to the public.
