Eleven Splendora High School band students competed in the final round of auditions at the Texas Music Educators Association Area Auditions on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Among them, SHS senior trumpet player Brayden Harris and sophomore percussionist Samuel Castillo earned top placements in their respective areas, securing spots in the prestigious TMEA All-State Band, which will be held in San Antonio.

SHS sophomore oboist Victoria Martinez was named first alternate to state, an achievement that is also considered a significant honor.

Selection to the TMEA All-State Band represents the highest honor for Texas high school musicians. Only about 2 percent of the more than 70,000 students who begin the All-State audition process earn a chair in the ensemble.

Splendora ISD officials said they are proud of Harris, Castillo, Martinez, and all 11 SHS band members who auditioned and represented the district.
