Kim Harris has officially announced her candidacy for re-election as Liberty County treasurer, seeking a sixth consecutive term of trusted financial leadership, proven experience and faithful service to Liberty County taxpayers.
A certified public accountant and certified investment officer, Harris brings decades of experience in accounting, auditing, investments and human resources. Her professional background includes work with the former global accounting firm Arthur Young & Co. and other respected local CPA firms, providing the expertise necessary to safeguard public funds and ensure responsible financial management.
First elected in 2006 with the endorsement of the Republican Party of Texas, Harris has served as county treasurer with a commitment to accuracy, accountability and transparency. Her focus has remained on protecting taxpayer dollars, maintaining sound investment practices and ensuring public funds are managed with integrity.
Raised in Liberty, Harris is the daughter of Herbert and Katherine Carr, lifelong Liberty County residents and owners of Carr’s Services Inc., an oilfield service company based in Liberty. After graduating from Liberty High School, Harris earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Texas A&M University, where she received multiple honors, including the Academic Excellence Award and the Distinguished Student Award. She earned her CPA license in 1991.
She has been married for 33 years to Liberty businessman Matt Harris. Born and raised in Dayton, Matt Harris is the son of Joe and Frances Harris, longtime Dayton residents. The couple has three children, Luke, Katie and Lizzie. Luke, a Texas A&M graduate, is actively involved in the family-owned construction business, Pelco Builders. He and his wife, Hailey, have three young children and live in Dayton. Katie, a University of Texas graduate, is a professional structural engineer living in Colorado. Their youngest daughter, Lizzie, will graduate in May from McGovern Medical School and plans to pursue a career as a surgeon.
Deeply rooted in the community, Harris understands the importance of fiscal responsibility not only as a public servant, but as a taxpayer, parent and grandparent. She has served on the board of directors and as treasurer for the Liberty Municipal Library, on the finance council for Immaculate Conception Church, as president, vice president and treasurer of the Liberty Garden Club, and as a softball coach for the Liberty Youth Baseball Association.
“I am very honored to serve the citizens of our county,” Harris said. “My experience and commitment to conservative financial principles ensure your tax dollars are safeguarded carefully and responsibly.”
Harris respectfully asks for the continued support and trust of voters as she seeks re-election as Liberty County treasurer.
