Coquiese Marie Eglin, lovingly known as Sis, Co and CoCo, celebrated her 69th birthday on Jan. 6 surrounded by family and friends. She gained her wings Jan. 14, 2026, at home, peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Coquiese enjoyed the simple things in life that money could not buy — family, love, joy, peace and happiness.
Coquiese was born Jan. 6, 1957, in Port Arthur, Texas. She was raised in Beaumont, Texas, in the community known as “The Pear Orchard.” She attended Hebert High School and was a member of the Class of 1975. Coquiese lived a happy, active life filled with family and friends. She was blessed with God-given talents of cooking, knitting and crocheting, which she loved sharing with family, friends and anyone she cared for.
One of her most memorable moments, gifted by her daughter, was a vacation to St. Croix, Puerto Rico, Grand Turks, St. Thomas and Miami, which she enjoyed with her sister, niece, nephew and aunt. Nothing brought her more joy than cooking and spending time with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlie Lee Adams Eglin; her father, Kermit Eglin; her grandparents, Everette Adams Sr. and Etha Bilbo Adams; her brother, Kermit Eglin Jr.; and her sister, Denise Eglin.
Coquiese is survived by her daughter, Etha Cherayl Eglin; granddaughter, Ariel Marie Logan Gooden; sisters, Delbra Faye Redmon and Sjolanda Eglin Antoine (Eric); brother, Kenya Christopher Eglin; aunts, Ruby Lee Randolph and Jaqueline Diaz; stepmother, Cella Eglin; nieces, Charlsie “Cookie” Hudson (Carlos), Paige Eglin and Journey Antoine; nephew, Karl Douglas Scott Jr.; great-nephews, Kendre Scott, Kamari Scott and Aaron Martin; great-nieces, Armanii Victoria Scott and Kayden Scott; godchildren, Wesley Lewis and Bobbi Landry; the love of her life, Howard Batiste Jr. (Etha’s father); and a host of cousins and friends.
