Liberty man dies in fiery crash on US 90

A Liberty man was killed Friday morning in a fiery two-vehicle crash at the intersection of FM 2830 and U.S. 90 east of Liberty, according to Sgt. Rob Willoughby, supervisor of the Liberty County office of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. when a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 traveling southbound on FM 2830 approached the stop sign at U.S. 90. Investigators said the driver failed to yield the right of way and attempted to turn left onto U.S. 90, pulling into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

A 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 towing a gooseneck trailer was traveling westbound on U.S. 90 when its front end struck the driver’s side of the smaller truck in a T-bone collision. Upon impact, the 2012 Dodge Ram caught fire and burned.

The driver of the 2012 truck, identified as William Larry Miller Jr., 49, of Liberty, became trapped inside the vehicle. Willoughby stated that Miller’s next of kin were notified a short time after the crash.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene by Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Jimmy Belt and was later transported to the Jefferson County Forensic Center in Beaumont.

The driver of the second vehicle, Brandan Ty Jordan, 26, of Alvin, sustained minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and released.

The crash is being investigated by Texas State Trooper Courtland Friend, with assistance from Sgt. Rob Willoughby and Troopers Godfrey and Reed.

    • Why would you use the word of God like that? It’s a sacred text, not something to be used to laugh at another person’s death.
