Verna Florence Crawford Turner

Verna Florence Crawford Turner, a cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor died peacefully after a life well-lived. Born in Natalia, Texas, Verna was a long-time and beloved resident of San Antonio, Texas.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Reble Crawford, her husband, Roy Turner, her son in law Gary Humphrey and by three sisters: Bernice Wheeler, Allene Swan, and Erma Calhoun.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Humphrey, and by three grandchildren: Kerri Cera (spouse Keith Cera), Kristi DeYoung (spouse Tim DeYoung), and Kyle Humphrey (spouse Stephanie Humphrey). Verna delighted in her ten great-grandchildren: Katelyn Collison, Libby Davies (spouse Joshua Davies), Abbey Collison, Jack Collison, Turner DeYoung, Caleb DeYoung, Eli DeYoung, Gwyneth Humphrey, Roy Humphrey, and Henry Humphrey. Also remembering her with fondness are nieces and nephews Marianne Manthey, Caroline Weisinger, Ben Manthey, Carl Manthey, and Henry Manthey.

Verna will be remembered for her amazing homestyle southern cooking, her garden that produced the fruits for her homemade salsa and her pickles, and for her ability to make some of the best creamed corn.

Verna was also gifted with the talent of sewing and quilting. But most importantly she will be remembered for her warmth, her steadfast devotion to family and friends, and the kindness she shared with all who knew her. Once she knew you had a ‘favorite’ something, that is what you would be greeted with at her home upon your arrival. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched and through the love of her family.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Redrock Cemetery in Cleveland, Texas. Those who wish to share memories, photos, or condolences are invited to do so with the family.
