Laverne Charles

Laverne Charles was born on May 25, 1928, in Shepherd, Texas, to John Tellis and Elizabeth Holcomb Tellis. She graduated from Dixon High School in Shepherd, Texas. Laverne joined church at an early age and has been a member of Lake Station Missionary Baptist Church for over seventy plus years. Laverne was active in the choir, missions and church announcements. She was also a member of the Shepherd Community Choir.

She also leaves a legacy of being a hard worker. She was a licensed beautician and worked at the Livingston Nursing Home. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Laverne is preceded in death by her husband, L J Charles, her parents John and Elizabeth Tellis, her eight siblings; Margie Smith, Rosie Pearl Jefferson, Artholia Marie Toran, Johnnie Mae Bailey, Silvia Punch, Elmira Yates, Randy Tellis, and Deacon E H Tellis.

A visitation for Laverne will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Lake Station Missionary Baptist Church in Shepherd, Texas. A Celebration of her life will begin at 12:00 PM at the same location. Pastor Darryl Richardson will be the officiant. An interment will follow at Lake Station Baptist Cemetery, Shepherd, Texas.

All services are being handled under the trusted care of Neal Funeral Home.
