Sam Houston Electric Cooperative is continuing its commitment to education by offering scholarships to graduating high school seniors through its 2025–2026 Scholarship Program.
The cooperative will award $3,000 academic scholarships, paid in two installments of $1,500 per semester, along with a limited number of $1,500 vocational scholarships, paid at $750 per semester. Scholarships are available to eligible high school seniors graduating in 2025.
To receive the initial scholarship payment for the fall semester following graduation, recipients must provide proof of registration as a full-time student, defined as a minimum of 12 credit hours, at an accredited Texas institution of higher learning. At the end of the first semester, recipients must submit a copy of their grades. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and remain enrolled in consecutive semesters to continue receiving funds.
Eligibility for the scholarship program is limited to graduating high school seniors whose parents or legal guardians are active members of Sam Houston Electric Cooperative. An active member is defined as someone receiving electric service from the cooperative, with the membership listed in the parent or legal guardian’s name. Both traditional and non-traditional students are eligible to apply, including those attending private, parochial, or home schools.
Scholarships may be used at accredited Texas institutions of higher education, including four-year colleges and universities, community or junior colleges, trade schools offering associate degrees, and business colleges offering associate degrees. Scholarship recipients must claim their initial payment during the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
Applicants must demonstrate good character by submitting at least two letters of reference, neither of which may be from a relative. One reference must come from a teacher, principal, counselor, or similar school official. The second reference may be from another qualified individual. For non-traditional students, references may be provided by employers, supervisors, ministers, or similar contacts. Applicants must also submit a certified copy of their school transcript and include a complete copy of their official FAFSA Student Aid Report.
Scholarships will be awarded based on available funding and applicant eligibility. Completed applications must be received no later than Feb. 4, 2026.
Students selected for the scholarship must maintain full-time enrollment and a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. At the end of each semester, recipients are required to provide copies of their grades and proof of registration for the following semester before additional scholarship funds are released.
Students interested in applying can download the 2025–2026 Scholarship Application Packet and should carefully review all instructions before submitting their materials.
