Abbey Thompson Lemke

Abbey Thompson Lemke, of Coldspring, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on Aug. 13, 1956, in Winamac, Ind., Abbey was the youngest daughter of Dr. William and Jane Thompson. From an early age, she was known for her warmth, energy, and deep love for people—qualities that marked her entire life.

Abbey married the love of her life, Kendall Ray Lemke, on March 2, 1985. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. She was a deeply involved and encouraging mother to her children, never missing an activity and joyfully serving in countless roles as they grew.

She is survived by her husband, Kendall; her daughter, KatyJane Sillavan and husband Jake; her son, Michael Lemke and wife Faith; her siblings, Joe Thompson, Bob Thompson, Jim Thompson and wife Mary Lynn, and Shelley Thompson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Abbey’s greatest delight was her role as”Gran” to her four beloved grandchildren: Sawyer Ray (8), Willa Rae (6), Penelope Jane (4), and Everett Thomas (1), each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Abbey graduated from Indiana University in 1978, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Omega Pi sorority and became a lifelong Hoosiers fan. One of her great joys was witnessing Indiana University win two national championships—one in basketball during her college years and, most recently, their first ever football championship.

Her happy place was always near the water. Whether at the beach, swimming, or spending time at the lake, Abbey found peace and joy by the water’s edge. She also loved travel, theater, community activities, flowers, and crafting. An avid golfer, she developed a lifelong love for the game early on while playing with her father.

A devoted and involved member of her community, Abbey was valued and loved by all who knew her. Her kindness, enthusiasm, and genuine care for others left a lasting impression that will be felt for years to come.

Abbey’s life is a beautiful testimony of family, love, and joy. She will be deeply missed and remembered until the day her family is reunited with her again.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Care Share Mission of Coldspring (caresharefoodpantry.org) or the charity of choice. A Remembrance Gathering for Abbey will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026 at the Cape Royale Clubhouse at 2pm.
