LCSO investigating threat to charter schools in Colony Ridge

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office investigated a reported threat Tuesday evening, Feb. 10, directed toward charter schools located in the Colony Ridge subdivision in Cleveland.

According to authorities, the Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a potential threat that had been posted to social media. The video circulating online showed a teenage boy, who displayed his face to the camera, firing a semi-automatic firearm. The video included the message, “lil kids thought I was joking around.”

Upon receiving the information, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division immediately launched an investigation. With assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety, investigators were able to quickly identify the source of the reported threats and respond accordingly.

Following a thorough investigation, officials determined the threats were unfounded and posed no danger to the schools, staff, or students.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office stated that it will be seeking criminal charges against the individual or individuals responsible for creating and disseminating the videos across the internet.

Authorities emphasized that all threats toward schools are taken seriously and that ensuring the safety of students and educators remains a top priority.
