City of Dayton holds drawing for May 3 election ballot positions

The City of Dayton held a drawing on Monday, Feb. 23, to determine the order in which candidates will appear on the ballot for the upcoming May 2, 2026 election.

Only one race is contested for the city — the mayor’s seat. Incumbent Mayor Martin Mudd is facing challenger Andy Conner, a former Dayton city councilman. During the drawing, Conner selected the top position on the ballot, while Mudd will appear in the second slot.

The only other city race on the ballot is for Council Member Position 3. Charles “Charlie” Whitehead is the sole candidate to file for that position and will run unopposed.

The Position 3 seat is currently held by Councilman John Headrick, who is not seeking re-election. Instead, Headrick is running for Liberty County Precinct 4 commissioner in the March 3 Republican primary.
