City of Liberty issues boil water notice for portions of water system

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Liberty public water system (ID# 1460003) to notify customers in affected areas to boil their water prior to consumption due to reduced distribution system pressure caused by a line break.

The notice applies to customers on the north end of the distribution system, including areas along Highway 146 past the sheriff’s substation, FM 2830, CR 169 and CR 169B.

Water used for drinking, cooking and ice making should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and boiled for at least two minutes. The water should then be cooled prior to use for drinking or other human consumption purposes.

Children, seniors and individuals with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers in the affected areas should follow these directions.

Instead of boiling, customers may purchase bottled water or obtain water from another suitable source for drinking or human consumption.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for consumption. Once the notice is lifted, the city will issue a rescission notice in a manner similar to this notification.

Residents are asked to share this information with others who may not have received the notice directly, including people in apartments, nursing homes, schools and businesses. Notices may be posted in public places or distributed by hand or mail.
