
Lawrence Travis Whitehead Sr. was born on Dec. 13, 1939, in Waxahachie, Texas, a place that marked the beginning of a life rich with cherished memories and adventures. He peacefully departed this world on March 1, 2026, in Cleveland, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was predeceased by his adored wife, Mary June Whitehead, who was the love of his life and his constant companion. Lawrence was a devoted father, leaving behind his children, Kathryn White, Douglas Whitehead and wife Deb, Melinda Hoover, Mary Thibodeaux, Tommy Whitehead and wife Missy, John Whitehead, and Tammy Mullins and husband Blake. His legacy continues through his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his spirit and values.
Lawrence’s life was intertwined with the hearts of those who knew him. He is remembered not only for his deep love for family but also for the friendships he fostered throughout the years. His brother, Paul Whitehead and wife Gloria, and his sisters, DA Stout and Carolyn Parks, along with numerous loving family members and a host of treasured friends, stand as a testament to the impact he made in the lives he touched.
Lawrence also mourned the loss of his son, Lawrence “Bo” Travis Whitehead Jr., as well as his parents, Travis Martin Whitehead and Delora Ann Cook, and his brother, Jimmy Whitehead, and his sister, Linda Brewington. Each of these losses left a profound imprint on his heart, yet he embraced life with unwavering strength.
Throughout his life, Lawrence cultivated many interests that brought him joy and satisfaction. He had a particular passion for the great outdoors, which was evident in his love for camping, fishing, and hunting. Each trip was an opportunity for reflection and a chance to bond with nature. He found peace in searching for arrowheads, a pursuit that became a personal hobby, connecting him to history and the land he cherished.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in honor of Lawrence on Saturday, March 7, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM located at Neal Funeral Home 200 S Washington Ave, Cleveland, Texas. During this special gathering, family and friends will have the opportunity to share their stories, celebrate the life of this remarkable man, and find comfort in one another’s presence.
