Hardin woman killed in two-vehicle crash on SH 146

A Hardin native was killed Saturday night in a motorcycle crash on SH 146.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. on March 7 on SH 146 north of County Road 2002 in Hardin.

According to Sgt. Rob Willoughby, supervisor for the Liberty County office of the Texas Department of Public Safety, 62-year-old Theresa Cain, of Kountze and a Hardin native, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when she attempted to pass several vehicles traveling in the same direction.

During the maneuver, Cain lost control of the motorcycle. The bike skidded across the pavement and Cain slid into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by a Daisetta man.

Willoughby said the driver was unable to avoid striking Cain. She died upon impact.

The driver of the vehicle and his female passenger were not physically injured in the crash.

Cain was pronounced deceased at the scene, and her body was transported to Beaumont for autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Courtland Friend, assisted by Trooper Natalie Aguirre. Cain’s next of kin have been notified.
