Clark man killed in crash outside of Cleveland

A 53-year-old Clark, Texas, man was killed Monday afternoon, March 9, in a head-on collision on FM 787 east of Cleveland.

According to Sgt. Rob Willoughby with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. on FM 787 about a mile east of FM 223.

Preliminary information indicates that a 2019 Nissan Versa, traveling westbound on FM 787, crossed over the center stripe and struck an eastbound 2018 Ford F-350 head-on. The vehicles collided front left to front left.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Wade Brown, who ordered an autopsy. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Ford F-350, a dually equipped with a Ranch bumper, was driven by Liz Kidd Kirkham of Cleveland. She was traveling with her 5-year-old twins. According to Willoughby, the Kirkham family was not seriously injured in the crash but were medically evaluated as a precaution.

FM 787 was closed for a couple of hours while emergency personnel worked to clear the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Natalie Aguirre, assisted by Sgt. Rob Willoughby and Trooper Courtland Friend.
