Dorothy Louise Mizell

Dorothy Louise Mizell, age 78 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026. She was born Jan. 20, 1948, in Harris County, Texas, to parents John and Dorothy Griffin who preceded her in death, along with her husband Curtis Mizell, and her brother John Griffin Jr.

Dorothy (Momma) graduated from Aldine High School in Houston, Texas before marrying the love of her life Curtis Mizell. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with her husband and three children until 1983 where she led worship for some of that time. She then attended Calvary Baptist Church before moving her membership to Bear Creek Baptist Church in 2008 with Curtis.

Momma loved singing gospel music and although she had the opportunity to travel singing country gospel music, her primary mission was raising her three children in a Christian home. She selflessly gave up her dreams to raise her family while only singing in church and funeral services. God calls all believers to serve at some capacity, and she was obedient to his call. Momma enjoyed traveling to the mountains, hunting (got banged up a little but hit her target), and traveling around the country singing country gospel music of which was a dream fulfilled after her kids were raised. In her later years however, she (Nannie) enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart. She will be missed greatly. However, because we know that she believed in our Savior, Jesus Christ, we will see her again. If you believe, you will see her too!!

Survivors include her son, Michael Mizell and wife Melissa; daughters, Cathy Pruett and husband Rusty, and B.J. Mizell; grandchildren, Hunter Fitch and wife Melody, Layton Fitch and wife Emily, Braely Fitch, Tanner Mizell, Ainsley Mizell, Cade Mizell; great grandchildren, Jennings Fitch, Creed Griffin Fitch, Leighton (LC) Fitch, and soon to be Charolette Fitch; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will begin 2 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church, 816 Blair St., Cleveland, Texas, 77328. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. The interment will follow funeral services at Magnolia Community Cemetery.
