Dayton Police Department accepting applications for Citizens Police Academy

Dayton Police Department is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens Police Academy, a five-week program designed to give residents a closer look at how the department operates and how the criminal justice system works.

The academy will meet Tuesday nights from March 31 through April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Dayton Police Department, located at 2004 N. Cleveland St.

The program is open to individuals who live or work within the Dayton city limits and are at least 18 years old. The deadline to apply is March 28.

The Citizens Police Academy is intended to promote transparency and strengthen communication between the community and local law enforcement. Participants will gain a better understanding of the duties and responsibilities of Dayton police officers and the processes involved in the criminal justice system.

During the academy, participants will receive classroom instruction covering topics such as the Texas Penal Code, criminal investigations, narcotics, juvenile law and the criminal justice system.

Participants will also take part in hands-on activities, including conducting mock traffic stops and learning how investigators process a crime scene.

Enrollment is limited, and those interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
