Mayor John Hebert has announced his campaign for a second term, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve and asking voters to continue the city’s forward progress.
“I am reaching out to you with gratitude and enthusiasm as I officially announce my campaign for a second term as Mayor of Liberty,” Hebert said.
Hebert said he is thankful for the past two years in office and pointed to a number of accomplishments during his first term.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to have served the citizens of Liberty for the past two years and am excited to share some of our city’s impressive progress,” he said.
During that time, the city has focused on strengthening leadership, improving operations, and building a more responsive government. Hebert said those efforts included bringing in experienced professionals while also recognizing existing staff.
New leadership hires include City Manager Bryan Kendrick and Deputy City Manager Naomi Herrington, along with several department heads across public works, law enforcement, utilities, and economic development.
Hebert said the city has also worked to establish a stronger workplace culture.
“We have cultivated a ‘Find a Way to Say YES’ attitude, promoting a strong, positive, and solution-oriented environment across all departments,” he said.
Among the more visible changes, the city expanded its holiday programming.
“We have expanded the one-night Christmas Parade into a multiple-night, family-friendly community event that provided residents with opportunities to support local businesses, connect with fellow citizens while being entertained, and highlight the absolute best features of Liberty,” Hebert said.
Public safety improvements have also been a priority, with increased coordination between departments, updated tools and technology for police, and expanded fire services, including a new fire engine and a second station.
The city has also invested heavily in infrastructure. Over the past three years, more than $3 million from the Electrical Reconstruction Fund has been used for system upgrades, resulting in reduced outage and response times.
Hebert said the city is also using data-driven approaches to guide future infrastructure planning, including partnerships focused on roadway and electrical system improvements.
Parks and public spaces have seen significant upgrades, particularly at Liberty Municipal Park. Improvements include new ballfield lighting, plans for new concession and restroom facilities, a new 4,000-square-foot splash pad, and enhancements to park ponds.
The Parks Department has also expanded staffing to maintain city parks and public areas. Additionally, the Liberty Golf Course and Pro Shop have seen significant growth, with increased participation and revenue.
The city has partnered with the Liberty Garden Club on landscaping improvements near the library and Geraldine D. Humphreys building, and officials are working to develop new branding and signage to better reflect the community.
While highlighting progress, Hebert said more work remains.
“While we have made progress, important work remains,” he said.
Looking ahead, Hebert said his priorities include infrastructure improvements, managing growth, expanding economic opportunities, and strengthening the city’s electrical grid.
“I am dedicated to servant leadership; I believe in wholeheartedly serving Liberty’s best interests and ask for your vote to continue the momentum we have accomplished these last two years,” he said.
Hebert said he hopes to continue moving the city forward with the support of voters.
“With your support, we can continue Liberty’s advancement; please vote to re-elect me, John Hebert, as Mayor of Liberty, Texas,” he said.
