Betty Jean Hobgood, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, joined her heavenly Father on March 16, 2026, in Cleveland, Texas. Born on Sept. 6, 1946, in Houston, Texas, Betty lived a life full of devotion, love, and faith—a true testament to her gentle spirit and kind heart.
Betty was a faithful servant to the Lord, a foundation on which she built her life. Her unwavering devotion brought comfort and strength to all who knew her. She cherished her family deeply, always placing their needs at the forefront of her days. As a devoted wife to Johnny Ray Hobgood for 63 years, her partnership was marked by mutual respect, love, and countless shared moments—from tending the yard together to enjoying the simple joys of daily life.
Her joys extended beyond her home. Betty found peace and happiness outdoors; nothing pleased her more than gardening, especially caring for her cherished lemon tree. Her green thumb and nurturing nature were evident not only in her plants but also in the way she nurtured her family. A passionate cook, Betty delighted in preparing meals that brought everyone to the table, creating memories and traditions to be treasured forever.
Betty’s keen interest in tracing her family roots reflected her deep appreciation of heritage and history, a passion that enriched her understanding of self and family. Her warm and welcoming nature made her a beloved figure among many friends and loved ones.
She is survived by her loving husband, Johnny Ray Hobgood; her children, Lisa Buck, Johnny Hobgood II and his wife Tabitha, and Billy Ray Hobgood with his wife Linh. Her legacy lives on vibrantly through her grandchildren, Candice Palmer and her husband Carl, Benjamin Hobgood, Kyle Hobgood, Ashley Kyle, Brittany Cummings and her husband Tyler, and Justin Kyle. The beautiful light of her life also includes her great-grandchildren: Nolan Runyan, Jayce Palmer, Harper Palmer, Ethan Palmer, Hayden Gheen, Bryce Gheen, Bayley Gheen, Aleah Cummings, and McKenzie Cummings. Alongside them stand many other loving family members and treasured friends who held Betty dear.
Betty is welcomed into the gates of heaven by her parents, Benjamin and Phelbina Busby; her brother, Benjamin Busby; and her sisters, Joyce Borski and Kitty Scarborough. Their memories, along with Betty’s, are woven into the tapestry of a family that prides itself on resilience, love, and unity.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, the imprint of Betty Jean Hobgood’s life—the tenderness, faith, and boundless love—will forever remain. She leaves behind a legacy of grace and devotion that will continue to inspire all who had the honor of knowing her. In the stillness of loss, her family and friends find comfort in the cherished memories she created and the lasting warmth of her spirit.
