The Office of Liberty County District Attorney Jennifer Bergman is inviting the public to attend a candlelight vigil in honor of crime victims and child abuse victims later this month.

The vigil will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Liberty City Hall, located at 1829 Sam Houston St. in Liberty.

The event is intended to honor victims of crime, their families, and those who serve them, while also raising awareness about the realities of crime and promoting hope for a less violent future. The vigil is part of the local observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which runs from April 19 through April 25, 2026.

This year’s theme, “Listen. Act. Advocate. Protect Victims, Serve Communities,” will be observed nationwide by victim service organizations, allied professionals, and volunteers. The week serves as a time to recognize victims and survivors while highlighting progress made in advancing victims’ rights across the country.

In addition to recognizing crime victims, the vigil will also mark Child Abuse Prevention Month. April is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting children and preventing abuse before it occurs. Organizers hope the event will serve as a reminder that every child deserves to be loved and that preventing child abuse is a responsibility shared by the entire community.

Efforts during Child Abuse Prevention Month focus on supporting families and promoting environments that help children thrive. Community awareness and involvement are key components in reducing and preventing abuse.
