In a statement released Thursday, Splendora ISD officials said the incident at Splendora High School began around 9 a.m. when administrators received an allegation that a teacher may have been assaulted.
The campus was immediately placed on lockdown, and surrounding campuses were placed in secure mode as Splendora ISD administration, district police, and multiple law enforcement agencies responded.
At 9:50 a.m., the campus status was downgraded to a secure hold as the investigation continued.
After reviewing video footage and conducting interviews with students and staff, law enforcement determined that the staff member’s injuries were self-inflicted. Officials said reports circulating online claiming that a teacher had been stabbed were false.
The staff member involved has been arrested and removed from campus. Additional details regarding charges have not yet been released.
District officials said established safety protocols were followed and functioned as intended during the incident. They also acknowledged the situation caused concern and expressed appreciation for the patience and cooperation of students, staff, and families while emergency procedures were in place.
Counselors have been made available on campus for students who may need support. Officials said reunification information would be provided, and the investigation has been turned over to law enforcement.
