At the May 14 Liberty County Commissioners Court meeting, K-9 Officer Jack, a dedicated 9-year-old Dutch Shepherd, was formally granted retirement and a transfer of ownership to his handler, Lt. Michelle Deshotel of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
After years of service, K-9 Jack’s physical abilities have reached their limit, leading to the decision for a well-deserved retirement.
Recognizing his faithful dedication, commissioners granted the transfer of ownership to Lt. Deshotel, a 23-year veteran peace officer who will ensure that K-9 Jack will receive the care and attention he deserves in his golden years.
Jack’s departure creates a void within the Sheriff’s Office, which is supported by three additional K-9 units. These teams consist of Paul Young with Rita, Rico (currently without a handler), and Bryan Kutra with Wolf.
Sheriff Bobby Rader read a proclamation recognizing K-9 Jack’s contributions to the departure.
The transfer of ownership grants Deshotel all responsibility for the care and upkeep of Jack for the remainder of his life.
“She accepts and agrees to provide a safe environment,” Rader read in the proclamation.
Thank you for your service, Officer Jack!
Congratulations Jack !!! But I think you should get a retirement every month, like a big juicy steak, paid for by Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
