Joyce Dumas Givens

Joyce Dumas Givens, age 82 of Liberty, passed away June 3, 2018 at Magnolia Place Health Care in Liberty. Joyce was born August 30, 1935 in West Monroe, Louisiana, daughter of the late Jesse Aubrey Dumas and Mary Catherin Cowen Dumas. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, Louisiana and then attended Northeast Louisiana University where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. Joyce married Billy Givens on January 28, 1958 in West Monroe, LA and was married for fifty-eight before Billy’s passing in 2015. Joyce loved sports and she played basketball for Ouachita Parish High School. She staged one of the greatest individual performances ever seen in a Louisiana girl’s tournament tossing in 102 points in three games in 1953. Joyce had an active hand in the athletic achievements of her entire family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be missed by all.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Billy Fred Givens, brothers; Jerry Dumas and Robert Dumas. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons; Matt Givens and wife Mary, Mark Givens and wife Cindy, daughter; Joan Givens Davis and husband Danny, grandchildren; Zack Givens, Sydney Givens, Elyse Bell, Chance Givens, Meredith Bell and Tyler Givens.
