Gladys Jewel Davis

Gladys Jewel Davis, 94, of Dayton passed away Friday, July 18, 2018 in Houston, Texas.  She was born February 4, 1924 in Raleigh, Mississippi to parents, Oree Webb and Mamie Boykin Webb.

Service for Mrs. Davis will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Day officiating.  Interment will follow at San Jacinto Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis had been a resident of Dayton for the past 35 years after moving from Baytown.  She was Baptist by faith, enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, doing ceramics and all crafts.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles A. Davis.  Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters, Ginger Merka and husband T.J. of Tarkington, Jane Croft of Kenefick, and Charlotte York of Kenefick;  brothers, James Webb and wife Bonnie of Mississippi and Harold Webb of Alabama; sisters, Bea Foreman and husband Walter of Mississippi, Elaine Eskew of Louisiana; grandchildren, Joe Merka, Gordon Smith and wife Anna, Stephanie Merka, Kim Pichinson, Sean Leger and wife Lisa, Sheila Hollaway and husband David; numerous great- grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Before creating Bluebonnet News in 2018, Vanesa Brashier was a community editor for the Houston Chronicle/Houston Community Newspapers.
