Parents looking to buy school clothing and supplies will want to take advantage of an upcoming Texas sales tax holiday on Aug. 10-12.
During this three-day holiday, most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks (sold for less than $100) will be tax free if sold in a Texas store or from an online retailer located in Texas. The savings is about $8 on every $100 purchased in tax-free items.
The Sales Tax Holiday for back-to-school items is held every August in Texas and is one of four annual sales tax holidays. The others are the Emergency Preparation Supplies holiday in April, and the Texas EnergyStar and Water-Efficient Products holidays on Memorial Day weekend.
The school sales tax holiday allows parents to stock up on clothing and school supplies their students will need as they return to school this August. Most clothing and footwear items are included, though there are some exceptions.
The holiday begins Friday, Aug. 10, and goes through midnight Sunday, Aug. 12.
